Rocky Point

To wrap up this theme of my favorite October trips, I have to post about Rocky Point, or Puerto Penasco as it's also known. Since it's about a 4 hour drive from home, I've been heading here almost every year at least once since I was 18. It's now become our favorite October break family trip.  Getting There We make the 4 hour drive, but not before buying car insurance. You need to insure your car since your own insurance won't cover outside of the US. We like to book online and use Sanborn's . The trip is pretty easy and straightforward, but there are often unsafe drivers heading the same way that like to pass other cars blindly. Be careful! There are long stretches where cars will go too fast and it's too often that this reckless driving results in a bad accident. Be safe. There is often a wait at the border, and the border now closes usually at 8 pm, no matter how long the line might be. They may have you pull off to search your car as you ente

Halloween Theme Parks

Remember when I said I wanted to visit Disneyland over Halloween ? Well, we did it. For the kids' October break this year, we headed to California. We hit up Universal Studios first, and then a couple days at Disneyland followed. Universal Studios It's been years since I've visited Universal Studios, so we decided to add this as our first stop. We drove straight there and hung out at the CityWalk area after we arrived. It was a fun area. There was a candy shop full of TikTok famous candy that the kids liked. We stayed at BLVD Hotel , which is a more budget friendly option but still walkable location. Thankfully, there is a Universal Studios tram that you can take to drive you up the large hill to enter the Universal Studios area. The stop is on Universal Hollywood Dr just east of Lankershim Blvd. They drop you off right at the entrance of Universal Studios.  We had one day planned here, so we arrived at opening and headed straight back to the Harry P

New Orleans

Well, we're well into October so I thought I'd post a fun October trip: New Orleans (another great October trip? The Balloon Fiesta ). Now, I've been here myself 3 times now (hopefully 4 by the end of the month), and EVERY SINGLE TIME it was over Halloween weekend. That's not an accident. While I'm sure it's fun other times of the year, Halloween in NoLa is a treat. Getting there You can find a decent price on a nonstop to New Orleans pretty easy if you keep your eyes open. Southwest will often have a sale, or we have used our AA miles to get here as well. Once you arrive, grab your luggage and stand in the taxi line outside. When it's your turn, grab a taxi (which has flat rates to the French Quarter area), and you'll be in the fun in no time. Check in, grab a beer to go, and head out. Where We Stay My former in-laws introduced me to New Orleans and they love staying at Le Richelieu , which is a great spot. Last time
