Antelope Canyon

Another highly photographed place that still will take your breath away.

A trip to Page would not be complete without a visit to Antelope Canyon.
We took a tour with Dixie's Lower Antelope Canyon Tours. I would highly recommend it. This company is apparently owned by the sister of Ken, owner of Ken's Lower Antelope Canyon Tours. They are located right next to each other and I'm sure offer great tours as well.
It was a little hard finding the location of Dixie's; for some reason Google navigation led us astray even though their map is accurate. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Page. You head east on the 98. You'll see a large tour company on the right, go just past that and turn left onto the 222. You'll see Ken's Tours almost immediately on the left. Head there, but go just past Ken's to Dixie's.

The tour location has a large parking lot and a small gift shop. The only bathrooms are porta pottys. When it's your tour time, you meet outside on the back deck, get assigned a tour guide, and walk a short distance to the entry of the canyon.

We had 9 people in my family and they added a single person with us, so our tour was 10 people plus the guide.

There were on and off sprinkles that day and the ground was very smooth, so it was a little slippery. But there were handrails everywhere and I always felt safe.

You do need to take some stairs to get into the canyon and a couple times throughout. Again, they were all very secure and safe and everyone in our party was able to transverse these with ease.

See those holes on the wall to the left? Apparently, those were used instead of a ladder back in the day along with rope to pull you up into that next space. I'm glad the ladder's there now!

Immediately you are surrounded by beauty. We were told no video was allowed, but we could take all the pictures we wanted. My son was so enamored he kept using my phone to take pictures himself.

The tour guide also knew the best spots for pictures and would often take your phone, adjust your settings, and take pictures for you. She was the best! She had a lot of knowledge of the area and was very sweet.

She even took pictures of the family in the best spots.

We'd be snapping away and she'd tell us, "Ok, we're only about 5% through the canyon!" There was just so much beauty everywhere. The tour lasts about an hour, but you're only in the canyon for about 400 meters.

Upper Antelope Canyon is actually probably the more photographic canyon of the two. That canyon has the better light beams, the falling sand, and higher walls. Lower Antelope Canyon has the tighter opening up top making for these pretty narrow slots.

It really was amazing to see all this in person. It's crazy that all this beauty is so hidden from up top.

Looking at the landscape from afar you'd have no idea this canyon was here!

That's the top. We were down inside that little crack for the whole tour! I am a tad claustrophobic, but being able to see the sun was all I needed, and I never felt scared or claustrophobic inside.

It was amazing!
