National Park Week

In honor of the start of National Park Week, I decided to do a post about my first visit to the Grand Canyon.

As I've mentioned, I'm a born and raised AZ native. It took me over 37 years to see the Grand Canyon!
For this trip, we did a quick drive thru. We entered from the east side, which I think is typically less busy than the south. We drove up from Flagstaff, heading towards Cameron. Your turn will be before Cameron, but you could easily hit up the Cameron Trading Post, which I mention here. You can also usually find Navajo taco and craft stands along the way.

You'll take the AZ 64 West, or Desert View Dr. In about 30 miles, you'll arrive at Desert View Watchtower. It's a cool stop. The Watchtower is a National Historic Landmark. There's also a little trading post there.
Continue west and stop at any lookouts you want along the way.
Be wary of the squirrels! They are not afraid of people at all.

Apparently, tourists end up in the ER every year from a squirrel attack and these things carry diseases, even the plague

It was a short trip, but I teared up entering the canyon because I was so thankful to finally see this natural wonder.
