Beautiful Florence

Florence was beautiful. The moment we stepped off the train, we were hit with its beauty. Just amazing.

Getting There

Our first train ride of the trip was from Rome to Florence, about 2.5 hours. It went off without a hitch. On this trip we took 3 different train rides (Rome > Florence > Venice > Munich). While you can book tickets the day of at the station, I reserved ours before we left. It was a tad confusing, and I was a bit nervous that I did something wrong, but it all worked out just fine. We rode Italo and I booked directly with them. I booked us 4 seats facing each other, which made for a good chance at conversation. On board, you'll find comfortable seats, restrooms, and usually a train attendant handing out a snack and drink. You are able to see some of the countryside out your windows.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Corte de Sogni (Hotel Giotto), a boutique hotel. We got off the train, were hit immediately with the beauty of the place, and took a short walk to our hotel. Again, it was a great location and I'd recommend it. It was tucked away down a small street with a nice small restaurant right across the street where we went a few times to grab drinks and food.

What We Did

Our first tour here was a guided tour of Accademia to see Michelangelo's David.

It's so weird to see something in person that you've see so often through pictures. We then went to Palazzo Vecchio to explore. There is so much history and art throughout this whole trip that it honestly becomes hard to admire it, it's just all so overwhelming. Beautiful and historical, but overwhelming. I would suggest doing as much research as you can so you understand some of the art before you visit.

Walking around you're just awestruck at the sights.

For dinner our first night, we went to Tavernetta della Signoria. This dinner was a lot of fun. My dad and Chris split the largest steak I've ever seen and we shared some wine (maybe too much?) and just enjoyed the night.

It's easy to walk around Florence and walking the small streets and passing by the various piazzas was perfect.

The next day we had a tour of Baptistery, Cathedral, and Bell Tower. Now, I didn't realize that this tour was essentially a climb of the Bell Tower. My claustrophobia took control and I bowed out of the climb. My parents stayed behind with me and we explored while Chris did the climb.

When we were done, we grabbed some amazing lunch at a nearby restaurant that looked good.

We wandered to the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Uffizi Gallery.

Our second night here we ate at Ristorante Buca Mario. It felt really old school and was a great way to end the night. We left a normal tip by U.S. standards, which I know isn't typically expected. In return they gave us an apron and some oven mitts. We rounded out our night with some wandering and gelato.

I loved Florence. I wish we had at least 1 more day there as we had to skip some stuff. I would love to go back. Just wandering the quaint streets and grabbing an Aperol Spritz with my hubby and parents was my favorite.
