Family Friendly All Inclusive

As summer comes to an end, I wanted to post about our family summer getaway to Cabo San Lucas. We wanted to try out an all inclusive with the family, but wanted it close by so not to be a travel nightmare. We were traveling with my parents and my sister's family, so we chose a resort that would accommodate all our tastes.

Getting There

We started the process of getting the kids' passports in November last year to make sure there was plenty of time before our summer trip. Since they're under 16, the passports are only valid for 5 years (so now I need to plan another trip to get more use out of them! Hopefully Costa Rica next year...). Based on other vacations and everyone's schedules, our trip didn't take place until July. We knew it was going to be hot, but that's just the way it worked out. We figured we'd mainly be in the pool anyhow, and we were.

We all flew together on the short flight straight to Cabo.

I had also prebooked our transportation from the airport to the hotel, which was about 25 minutes.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Royal Solaris. It was okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. There are so many options down there and this just wasn't great enough for me to recommend this over another resort in the area.

The check in process was ridiculous and our room was hot (in fairness, our room was the only hot one out of the 3 in our group). But, the food was pretty good (though the reservation process had issues) and we had fun in their pool.

I now know though, that all inclusives aren't really a good option for my kids. We'd prefer the option for more activities, versus feeling the need to stay at a place that we've already prepaid everything for. So, depending on how your family vacations, an all inclusive may not be the way to go.

With all that said, we still managed to have a good time. Sam's favorite activity was pool volleyball- good games happened everyday usually multiple times.

Mabel liked lounging in her float and playing in the kid area. For this trip, we did stay at the resort. But if I did it again, I'd recommend a day trip into town.

They had shows every night as well which we all found entertaining.

In most of Cabo, the ocean isn't safe to swim in, but you can walk down there and have a look. During the day, the sand will be HOT, so we would wander down at night.

At the end of the day, if you want to try out an all inclusive, Cabo San Lucas is a great choice for those of us on the west coast. It's a short flight and there are a lot of options. I'd look at other options before choosing the Royal Solaris, however. We have also done the adults-only Secrets resort down there and really enjoyed that! Maybe their family friendly Dreams Resort would be a good option.
